Profile:
The author is a graduate of Chemical and
Technological University in Prague. Since
mid-80s he has headed a team which developed the
Prague´s Environmental Information System
(PUDIS, Czech Environmental Institute). In the
period 1994 - 1999 was employed in the Institute
of Municipal Informatics of the City of Prague
(IMIP) as a head of Environmental information
services department. Sice 2000 has been working
for the City of Prague as a head of Strategic
office of the IT Department of Prague City Hall,
responsible for municipal IT strategic issues,
international activities of the department (including
TeleCities) and management of specific projects.
Presentation:
Project 1: “Prague an example of disaster
management -
2002 Floods, use of IT and Territorial Data”
In August 2002 Prague was affected by floods
which surpassed all expectations and
historical recordings. Presentation is focused
on experience of the City, important role of information
technology, use of geographic information systems
and territorial data
during this flood event. In first part the hydrological
information, legislation, Integrated Rescue System
and Flood Forecast and Warning System are introduced
on national level. Second part presents preparations
of the City for the high water and support of
municipal informatics in crisis as well as after
the flood. Last part is focused on new experience
with use of the Internet as a specific tool for
communication between citizens, public administration
and private sector in critical days.
